Oregon launches Google-based system to handle jobless claims from self-employed workers

Oregon introduced a new system Friday for processing jobless claims from self-employed workers, using technology developed by Google. The state says the new system will expedite the processing of jobless benefits for 100,000 people, more than 50,000 of whom are still waiting for their benefits.

Like other states, Oregon has been inundated with jobless claims during the pandemic and, as elsewhere, the flood of applications has overwhelmed the state and severely delayed benefits payments.
