49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo has sprained shoulder

Jimmy Garoppolo started Sunday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys with a torn ligament in his right thumb. Before it was over, he suffered a sprain to his right shoulder. Now, he’s dealing with both as the San Francisco 49ers prepare to face Aaron Rodgers and the top-seeded Green Bay Packers in Saturday’s NFC divisional-round playoff game.  Head coach Kyle Shanahan updated reporters on Garoppolo’s status on Monday. He described the shoulder sprain as “slight” and expects Garoppolo to practice and… Source link

Steven Adams carries Bulls’ Tony Bradley from Ja Morant in fight

Steven Adams went all out to protect his point guard on Monday afternoon. Adams, late in the Memphis Grizzlies’ 119-106 win over the Chicago Bulls at FedExForum, actually picked up Bulls center Tony Bradley and carried him away from Ja Morant after the two got into an altercation. Though Adams is a large man himself, he seemed to have zero issue whatsoever carrying the 6-foot-10, 248-pound Bradley. Bradley was given a flagrant foul on the play, as he appeared to trip up Morant as he drove… Source link

Warriors disavow co-owner’s Uyghur commentary

The Golden State Warriors distanced themselves on Monday from minority owner Chamath Palihapitiya, who declared on a recent podcast appearance: “Nobody cares about what’s happening to the Uyghurs.” Palihapitiya, a venture capitalist and former Facebook and AOL executive, made the statement while speaking on the “All In” technology podcast that he co-hosts. The comments gained social media traction on Monday, including this post from Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter Freedom: “Nobody… Source link

Novak Djokovic can’t play French Open without vaccine

It’s another day of bad news for Novak Djokovic. The No. 1-ranked men’s singles player might not be allowed to play at the French Open, the next Grand Slam on the schedule, because of his vaccination status.  Djokovic lost his appeal on Sunday to play in the Australian Open, closing a nearly two-week long saga over his unvaccinated status and attempt to enter the country with a visa and exemption. It is the first Grand Slam on the calendar as he chases a 21st Grand Slam victory that would… Source link

NCAA basketball: Wisconsin’s Johnny Davis now

As conference play in college basketball starts to pick up, two players from the Big Ten have jumped to the top of the odds board for national player of the year. And one of those players wasn’t even on the board in early December. That player is Wisconsin sophomore Johnny Davis, who has tripled his scoring average from last year. As a freshman, Davis averaged 7.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. This year, he is up to 21.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Badgers, who are currently… Source link

Cowboys lost more penalty yards than 4 teams ran for

If there’s a word that can sum up the Dallas Cowboys‘ 2021 season it’s this: discipline. As in, a lack thereof.  The Cowboys watched their season crater in Sunday’s NFC wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and it happened in perhaps what should have been predictable fashion. Sure, the end-of-game execution on Dak Prescott‘s failed QB sneak and spike was big. But there’s no way we can overlook the impact of the huge holding call in the first quarter (see below) or the delay of game… Source link

What to know this week

Earnings season is heating up this week. Even with one fewer trading day as markets are closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday, investors will come back from the holiday weekend to a prolific lineup of fourth quarter reports from market heavyweights such as Goldman Sachs (GS), Proctor & Gamble (PG), Netflix (NFLX) and United Airlines (UAL). The period kicked off in earnest last week with lackluster results from major U.S. banks. JPMorgan (JPM), Wells Fargo (WFC), and… Source link

Seven playoff teams = too much football?

Coming into this past weekend, we only had 13 NFL games left until September, so complaining about any of them seems a little ungrateful. But let’s be honest … several of the allegedly “super” wild-card matchups in the NFL playoffs stunk like those Thanksgiving leftovers you just discovered in the back of the fridge. Sure, two of the games came down to the last possession. But two others were all but unwatchable from the jump. The Bucs and Bills hung a combined 58 points – Tampa Bay 31,… Source link

China bans public from attending events

China will not permit ticket sales to any individuals at the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games, a move Olympic officials say is designed to prevent COVID-19 spread within the country. The decision, which comes weeks before thousands of international athletes and officials are slated to arrive in China for the Olympics, is a sharp departure from previous plans to allow Chinese citizens into the events. Chinese Olympic officials had decided in September that no international visitors would… Source link

Dak Prescott’s postgame blunder was even worse than squandering the clock

Dak Prescott should be ashamed of himself – and not because of the errors in judgment that squandered the final seconds off the clock in the wild-card playoff loss that ended the season for the NFL’s biggest tease, the Dallas Cowboys. No, the Cowboys quarterback ought to check himself for suggesting that frustrated fans at Jerry World were in the right for dangerously hurling trash at the officials who called it like they saw it. “Credit to them,” Prescott said during his postgame news… Source link
