Rahm birdies last 2 holes to win US Open at Torrey Pines

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Whether it was destiny or karma was of no relevance to Jon Rahm. He won the U.S. Open on Sunday at Torrey Pines, the perfect time and the perfect place to become a major champion. How it unfolded was beyond his dreams. One shot behind and running out of holes, Rahm made a sweeping, left-to-right birdie putt from 25 feet on the 17th hole to tie for the lead, and closed with another bending 18-foot birdie putt that gave him a one-shot victory over hard-luck Louis Oosthuizen. Bucks now favored to win it all

Thanks to James Harden’s hamstring, Kyrie Irving’s ankle and Kevin Durant‘s toes, the Brooklyn Nets are out of the NBA playoffs.  The Nets were overwhelming favorites to win it all before their second-round series against the Bucks, and those odds got even shorter after taking a 2-0 lead. More than 40 percent of the money wagered on who would win the NBA championship was on the Nets. After Brooklyn’s Game 7 loss on Saturday night there were a lot of torn-up tickets and some very happy… Source link

The Brooklyn Nets don’t even need to play well to win big

The Brooklyn Nets can sleepwalk through their first-round series with the Boston Celtics, and they basically did in Game 1. The question is whether they will wake up before their championship mettle is really tested. Brooklyn’s 47 first-half points on Saturday night was their lowest total in any game this season but one — a Jan. 8 outing against the Memphis Grizzlies in which Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden were not in uniform. They combined to make 11 of their 32 shots and none… Source link

DeepMind reportedly lost a yearslong bid to win more independence from Google

Tensions between Google and its AI brain trust DeepMind have always been fascinating. To put the relationship in crude terms: DeepMind, founded in 2010, is home to some the best AI researchers in the world who output a steady stream of insightful academic papers and Nature front covers. Google, meanwhile, bought DeepMind in 2014 and bankrolls its large losses, and it really, really wants to squeeze some money out of all those juicy brains. That’s why a recent story on the two companies… Source link
