Who still thinks members of Congress should be able to trade stocks

I was in Washington D.C. this past week and you could almost feel the strife in the brisk January air, with the endless squabbling over President Biden’s stalled Build Back Better plan being Exhibit A. And yet I did find instances of bipartisanship, featuring some strange bedfellows the likes of which I hadn’t seen since Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ted Cruz briefly aligned on Twitter last year during the meme stock brouhaha — before AOC kicked Ted to the curb, 67… Source link

OAKLAND, Calif. — Google infringed on five audio technology patents held by the speaker manufacturer Sonos and is not allowed to import products that violate Sonos’s intellectual property into the United States, a trade court ruled on Thursday. The final ruling by the United States International Trade Commission, a quasi-judicial body that decides trade cases and can block the import of goods that violate patents, closes a two-year investigation into the intellectual-property dispute.

Pelicans, Thunder trade wild shots

The two worst teams in the Western Conference delivered one of the wildest finishes you will ever see. Down 110-107 with 4.5 seconds left, Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received the ball and hit an awkward, nearly halfcourt 3-pointer to tie the game. The Oklahoma City crowd exploded, celebrating the kind of moment few and far between for the 8-19 Thunder this year. The game was headed to overtime. All that was left for the Pelicans, who were out of timeouts, was to inbound… Source link

‘This one is next’ — here’s why WallStreetBets founder Jaime Rogozinski is tapping Trump’s SPAC as the clear new meme trade Keeping a close eye on Reddit’s WallStreetBets forum has been a good idea for investors. The 11 million-member Internet community led the charge during GameStop’s two-week 1,500% short-squeeze in January and is largely responsible for AMC Entertainment’s massive 1,800% year-to-date run-up. Those incredible gains have led to the downfall of several hedge funds that… Source link

What I learned after somebody used my SSN to try to trade stocks on Robinhood

On Monday at 7:16 p.m. EDT, a weird email hit my inbox. Robinhood (HOOD), the online brokerage that has shaken up retail investing, told me it had approved an account in my name. A second email the next day urged me to link my bank account to Robinhood so I could trade my first stock. This was strange because I’ve never contemplated trading individual stocks. Sure, I work for a news site with a large audience of retail investors, but I’ve never been part of those ranks. While initially I… Source link
