The Murena One shows how hard it is to de-Google your smartphone

An Android phone without Google. No Google apps, no Google Play Services, no peppy Google Assistant. No Google surveillance and data snooping, no incessant ad targeting, no feeling like privacy is a pointless exercise. Some companies, like Huawei, have been forced to figure out how to build this kind of device. A few others have tried for the sake of maintaining your privacy and as a way to fight back against the tyranny of Big Tech. None of it has ever really worked. The team at Murena… Source link

Colin Kaepernick workout shows he’s serious about comeback

Colin Kaepernick workout shows he’s serious about comeback

Only the Las Vegas Raiders know whether Colin Kaepernick is still good enough to play quarterback in the NFL. Kaepernick tried out for the Raiders on Wednesday. It was his first legit tryout in years. He hasn’t appeared in a game since the 2016 season, when he started 11 games for a two-win San Francisco team. He was cut in early 2017 and hasn’t garnered much interest since, at least some of it because of his decision to kneel during the playing of the national anthem that season. Is he, at… Source link

The former vice president has decided to throw his weight behind a bid to win a second term for one of the Republicans whom Trump has blamed in his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. CNN+ debacle shows why cable companies struggle with streaming

The demise of CNN+ has led to further questions about the role of cable companies in the streaming era. The soon-to-vanish platform, once hailed as one of the most significant launches in the legacy media business, will shut down on April 30 — just one month after its launch. The news arrived shortly after David Zaslav’s takeover, with the newly formed Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) making it abundantly clear that the venture’s reported four-year budget of $1 billion was not worth the cost. So… Source link

New Yahoo News poll shows why inflation could doom Democrats in 2022 midterms

President Biden and the Democratic Party face no shortage of challenges heading into the 2022 midterm elections. But inflation is by far the most formidable — and now, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll, Americans say that Republicans (31%) rather than Democrats (26%) can do a better job of “fixing” it. The survey of 1,605 U.S. adults, which was conducted from April 19 to 22, found that 39% select either inflation (33%) or gas prices (6%) as the biggest problem facing America… Source link

Wimbledon banning Russian players shows the politicization of everything

On Wednesday, the All England Club announced players from Russia and Belarus are banned from playing in this year’s Wimbledon. This includes men’s world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev of Russia and women’s world No. 4 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus. These decisions are made under the guise of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — that, in the words of the All England Club, “unjustified and… Source link

The latest leak of Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch shows off a familiar design

We’ve been hearing rumors about Google’s Pixel Watch for years now, but it does finally seem like pieces for the project are finally falling into place. A purported render of the device shared by Evan Blass over at 91Mobiles lines up with past leaks and rumors, showing a device with a familiar circular design, physical crown, and Fitbit integration. Of course, there’s also a lot missing from the render. The image doesn’t include the watch’s lugs (which would show how the strap… Source link
