Pending home sales fall for a third consecutive month

Homebuying in the U.S. was slower than anticipated in the first month of 2022. Pending home sales, a leading indicator of the health of the housing market, declined for the third straight month. The National Association of Realtors’ (NAR) Pending Home Sales Index, which tracks the number of homes that are under contract to be sold, fell 5.7% in January from December and dropped 9.5% from the same month a year ago. US existing home sales unexpectedly jump in January, as inventory hits record low

Home sales in the U.S. jumped in the first month of 2022, while the number of homes for sales hit a new record low. Existing home sales rose 6.7% to a seasonally adjusted 6.50 million million units in January from a month earlier, the highest rate in 12 months, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
