Video of Marshawn Lynch’s DUI arrest in Las Vegas on Tuesday was released on Thursday. The police bodycam footage shows Lynch as he sat in the driver’s seat of a Shelby GT500 missing its front driver’s side wheel. Five officers surrounded the car and spoke with Lynch as he remained seated with the driver’s side door open before they eventually pulled him out and arrested him. Google, like Amazon, will let police see your video without a warrant

Google, like Amazon, will let police see your video without a warrant

Arlo, Apple, Wyze, and Anker, owner of Eufy, all confirmed to CNET that they won’t give authorities access to your smart home camera’s footage unless they’re shown a warrant or court order. If you’re wondering why they’re specifying that, it’s because we’ve now learned Google and Amazon are doing just the opposite: they allow police to get this data without a warrant if police claim there’s been an emergency. Earlier this month my colleague Sean Hollister wrote about how… Source link

Police sweep Google searches to find suspects. The tactic is facing its first legal challenge.

A teen charged with setting a fire that killed five members of a Senegalese immigrant family in Denver, Colorado, has become the first person to challenge police use of Google search histories to find someone who might have committed a crime, according to his lawyers.   The pushback against this surveillance tool, known as a reverse keyword search, is being closely watched by privacy and abortion rights advocates, who are concerned that it could soon be used to investigate women who search… Source link

DENVER (KDVR) — With a family of five dead in an unsolved house fire, night-vision images of the masked suspects haunted the metro for months — until Google led police to the accused killers. It took months before a break in the case, with the community fearful it was a targeted… Source link

Google’s ‘Inclusive Language’ Police – WSJ

The physicist Richard Feynman once told a story about his father taking him out in the woods to observe nature. Feynman saw a bird and asked what it was called. His father said the name was irrelevant—it was only important to see how a bird behaved if you wanted to learn about it. I have a hard time remembering names, which is one of the reasons I became a physicist and not a physician, as my mother wanted. Maybe this is why I have a hard time understanding… Source link
