Grading the NFL’s head coaching hires

Five of the nine open head coaching positions in the NFL have been filled. Six, if you include the reported, but unofficial, hire of Ram’s offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell in Minnesota. On the eve of Super Bowl week, Charles Robinson & Frank Schwab look back at the new head honchos in for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars; how these hires came to be, whether they fit with their new teams & whether they can fix these franchises… Source link

Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen may be NFL’s next great rivalry

When it was all over, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sprinted across the field to pay it forward. He weaved his way past the celebrating embraces of backup quarterback Chad Henne and linebacker Frank Clark, dropping his helmet at the 35-yard line and curving his trajectory to a person who had earned a shared private moment in the most public of places.  Normally, this singular path in the euphoric chaos of victory delivers a player to an embrace with family or a cherished… Source link

Dallas Cowboys defense creates NFL’s scariest playoff team

Back in September, shortly after DeMarcus Lawrence was limping off a practice field with a broken foot, he tapped out a hopeful-but-entirely-predictable social media post to raise the spirits of the Dallas Cowboys faithful. It was the kind of thing that is widely shared but scarcely believed when it comes to this franchise, a team that has seen for decades its best-laid plans break down. “Will be back and ready for war,” Lawrence tweeted. “Believe it.” What Lawrence and the Cowboys… Source link

Drew Brees, NFL’s all-time leading passer, retires

Drew Brees announced his retirement from the NFL on Sunday. The New Orleans Saints quarterback made the announcement on Instagram with some help from his kids. Brees’ unlikely path to all-time passing leader Brees wasn’t widely recruited before he went to Purdue. He fell to the second round of the draft because he wasn’t considered tall enough by NFL standards. After three seasons, the San Diego Chargers drafted Philip Rivers to replace him. When the New Orleans Saints signed Brees, he… Source link

Joe Montana admits Tom Brady is the NFL’s GOAT

There was plenty to take away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ Super Bowl championship last month, but by far the loudest story to emerge from Tampa was the further solidification of Tom Brady‘s legacy. By winning a title under a coach not named Bill Belichick, Brady removed what would have been one of the biggest counterarguments against his status as the NFL’s consensus greatest of all time had he retired with the New England Patriots. Brady now has seven rings with two different teams, five… Source link

Aaron Jones heads NFL’s injuries to watch

It’s a regular 2020 week, lots to discuss. Let’s get right to the news.  • Aaron Jones (calf) missed Friday’s work and is a game-time decision at Houston. Jamaal Williams probably should be rostered in most Yahoo formats, one of the more interesting understudy backs in the league. Rookie AJ Dillon is another option.  • Michael Thomas (hamstring) and Emmanuel Sanders (COVID-19/reserve list ) won’t play against Carolina. TreQuan Smith gets a significant bump with this news.  • Source link
