Super Bowl LV could be most expensive – and COVID-tested – NFL ticket in history

Despite the United States smashing COVID-19 infection records on nearly a daily basis, the NFL remains undeterred in its plans to host as many fans as it safely can in February’s Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida. Projecting what that will look like in November is a near impossibility, although the current grid appears to be set somewhere between 10,000-20,000 fans spread throughout Raymond James Stadium. But as cloudy as the crystal ball of attendance has become, it’s nothing compared to the… Source link

‘Anti-Colin Kaepernick’ former NFL player Burgess Owens linked to QAnon elected to U.S. Congress

A 10-year NFL veteran who dubs himself the “anti-Colin Kaepernick” has won a seat in the United States House of Representatives. Republican Burgess Owens defeated Democratic incumbent Ben McAdams to represent the Salt Lake City suburbs of Utah’s 4th Congressional District. McAdams conceded on Monday following a close count that showed Owens winning by a margin of less than 1 percent. The Associated Press called the race for Owens. All four of Utah’s U.S. House seats are now held by… Source link

With President Donald Trump on way out, Colin Kaepernick’s NFL window is closing — not opening

More than five months ago, when the NFL’s tone on peaceful gameday protests appeared to be changing across the board, an unexpected sense of optimism about Colin Kaepernick trickled out of the league office and a small handful of franchises. A swath of teams had spent a large portion of June expressing disdain over recent incidents of police brutality and racial injustice. Players were rallying across the country and pointing their spotlight toward the killings of George Floyd, Breonna… Source link

The ‘real’ NFL passing yardage leaderboards

Barring something catastrophic, on Thursday night in Tennessee, Philip Rivers will step into an exclusive club. With his first or second completion of a prime-time showdown between the Indianapolis Colts and Titans, he’ll leapfrog Dan Marino on the NFL’s all-time passing yardage leaderboard. He’ll ascend into fifth place, barring the 20th century from the top five forever. And he’ll help tell a story. Marino retired after the 1999 season atop that list and many others. He was widely… Source link

Raheem Morris is turning around the Falcons, but will NFL team owners even notice?

After an 0-5 start in which the Atlanta Falcons continued their confounding, Washington Generals-like inability to close out games, team owner Arthur Blank fired head coach Dan Quinn and named defensive coordinator Raheem Morris interim head coach. This was notable, and not just because Blank pulled the plug on a coach who was 21 minutes away from the Falcons’ Super Bowl win. No, this was also about Morris getting the one thing that’s proven to be all too rare for Black men who fall short… Source link

Will Jim Harbaugh land back in NFL after Michigan stint?

We are living in an era of underwhelming NFL coaches. Adam Gase somehow got hired by the New York Jets, and is basically being kept as a sideline tanking device to secure the No. 1 NFL draft pick. And the pipeline is also thin, as the incessant annual coaching turnover has created few appealing options. So what if there were a Super Bowl coach with a higher NFL winning percentage than Bill Belichick available? Well, he exists and could either be intrigued by a return to the NFL or forced… Source link

Peter King’s midseason NFL Power Rankings

Back in June, I did the fruitless annual 1-to-32 ranking of the NFL teams. Not sure which pick outraged the masses most, but it was either ranking Tampa Bay fifth or New England 21st. Looks like I was way off. Had the Bucs too low, and I might have had the Patriots too high. With 12 teams at the halfway point (the Bucs and Giants will make that 14 tonight), I’ve re-stacked the board here. (You’ll never guess 32.) After the highest-scoring first seven weeks of any NFL season, I’m… Source link
