NFL probe also chills trade market

In the 12 years since the commissioner’s exempt list was popularized as a circumstantial tool to sit NFL players down while continuing to pay their salary, only one thing has remained consistent: The standard for the league’s “timeout” has been as opaque as it is broad. And for this reason, the 16 pending civil lawsuits against Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson could lead him to be removed from NFL activities at any moment this offseason or suspended entirely — or not… Source link

NFL: Kyle Juszczyk reportedly signs

As a position, the NFL fullback is dead. That is unless your name is Kyle Juszczyk. In that case, it’s a lucrative career path. The San Francisco 49ers fullback agreed to an extension on Sunday. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s worth $27 million over five years. Of that, $10 million is guaranteed.  That’s not bad for a guy whose position has largely been phased out of the NFL for the better part of a decade — especially considering that he’s already banked more than $23 million in… Source link

Dez Bryant believes he’s an NFL Hall of Famer

If former Dallas Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant doesn’t play another snap in the NFL, he believes he’s a Hall of Famer. Bryant told TMZ he believes to make it to the Hall because “nobody put up TDs the way I put up.” He’s got a point about scoring touchdowns. From 2011 to 2014, Bryant hauled in 50 receiving touchdowns. For his career, that number jumps to 75 touchdowns — 77 if you include his punt returns. His 75 receiving touchdowns rank 36th all-time among receivers. Bryant’s career isn’t… Source link

Dak Prescott has shot at being top paid player in NFL history

For two years, Dak Prescott gambled on himself. And for two years, the Dallas Cowboys sat across the table and bet against their starting quarterback and the mushrooming pay scale that surrounded him. On Monday, the impasse was broken. Or if we’re searching for a more accurate descriptor, Prescott smashed it. The 27-year-old QB achieved a four-year, $160 million deal that essentially makes him the highest paid player in NFL history (based on his contract value at signing) and sets Prescott… Source link

Possible new NFL overtime rule?

The Gettysburg Address is 277 words, and finds elemental, eternal truths from the most complex of human endeavors. The NFL’s overtime rules run more than four times as long, 1120 words, and turn the simplest dang thing possible — how to figure out who wins a football game — into a bewildering array of directives and sub-articles so complicated that the IRS nods its approval. Put it this way: when you’ve got different sets of rules for regular season and playoffs — or when you have to… Source link

Kiper compares a top 2021 NFL Draft quarterback prospect to Tom Brady originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston The Mac Jones hype train is gaining a lot of steam in the lead up to the 2021 NFL Draft, and it’s easy to see why. He has been getting a lot of praise for his… Source link
