Michigan St. upends No. 2 Michigan for critical NCAA win

The Spartans are likely dancing after Sunday’s win over Michigan. (Gregory Shamus/Getty Images) Michigan State entered Sunday’s regular-season finale in unfamiliar territory — squarely on the NCAA tournament bubble. It left in much better shape — with a win No. 2 Michigan and a likely at-large bid to the NCAA tournament secured. Facing the Wolverines for the second of a back-to-back set against their rivals, the Spartans held a 61-59 lead with less than a minute remaining in Sunday’s game…. Source link

Texas hires Steve Sarkisian while Michigan extends Jim Harbaugh

For those reading the tea leaves the past month, it appeared inevitable that Michigan would extend head coach Jim Harbaugh. It had appeared that the same thing would happen at Texas — though an extension wasn’t necessarily on the table, but the brass in Austin expressed a vote of confidence in Tom Herman. However, the Longhorns did an about face, hiring away Steve Sarkisian from national championship game-bound Alabama. One program is being aggressive, the other patient. As Dan Wetzel… Source link

Texas hires Sarkisian, Michigan wants Harbaugh

Texas fired football coach Tom Herman on Saturday after he posted a 32-18 record (.640) the last four seasons. Meanwhile, Michigan presented football coach Jim Harbaugh a five-year contract extension this week (he’s yet to sign it, per an industry source) after leading the Wolverines to a 49-22 record (.690)… Source link

Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan struggles continue

The Michigan football program is the winningest in the history of the sport, with 938 victories since 1881. Over the 130 years that the school has played intercollegiate football, few of the victories would register as uniquely unsatisfying as the Wolverines’ triple-overtime win at Rutgers on Saturday. Michigan’s 48-42 slog offered perhaps the clearest indictment in the case against Jim Harbaugh returning as Michigan coach in 2021. One year after trouncing Rutgers 52-0, Michigan needed a… Source link
