After a two-year investigation, Gioacchino Gammino, 61, was tracked down in Galapagar, Spain, where he lived under a fake name. The town is close to the capital Madrid. A Google Maps street view picture portraying a man who looked like him in front of a fruit shop was key in triggering a deeper investigation. “The photogram helped us to confirm the investigation we were developing in traditional ways,” Nicola Altiero, deputy director of the Italian anti-mafia police unit (DIA), said. Google doesn’t always know best. Despite warnings to avoid travel after a massive snowstorm that started Christmas weekend closed major highways, thousands of people insisted on trying to drive into or out of the socked-in Sierra Nevada.   Some needed to get home. Some wanted to visit family. Some just wanted to play in the snow. Some were led astray by poor judgement. And many were led astray by Google Maps, which offered alternate driving routes that sent drivers to snowy dead ends.

It appears that Google Maps may have guided weary Lake Tahoe travelers to closed-off and even dangerous roads amid record-setting snowfall. CONCORDIA, Mo. – It was recently discovered that Google Maps captured a rare photo of a stealth bomber flying over Concordia, Missouri. The Google Maps photo was discovered by a Reddit user.
