Rick Carlisle’s job in Dallas is safe despite playoff struggles

Rick Carlisle’s postseason record is not good. Yes, he has led the Mavericks to an NBA championship back in 2011. Since then, however, Dallas has been unable to win a playoff series at all. And on Sunday, the Mavericks fell to the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, though, has no problem with Carlisle whatsoever. Mark Cuban: ‘The grass is rarely greener’ Carlisle, 61, was hired in Dallas before the 2008-09… Source link

Biden’s job approval dips amid concerns over government spending

As COVID-19 cases continue to fall and an increasingly vaccinated America emerges from the worst of the pandemic, the biggest political challenge facing President Biden may no longer be the virus itself. Unusually ‘generous’ unemployment benefits weighing on job market rebound: Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs thinks the surprisingly lackluster April jobs report could be partially explained on the generosity of Uncle Sam.  “We see two partial explanations for the payrolls disappointment. First, reopening effects likely overlapped with normal seasonal hiring patterns, resulting in less-impressive job gains on a seasonally-adjusted basis. Second, labor supply appears to be tighter than the unemployment rate suggests, likely reflecting the impact of unusually generous unemployment… Source link

Fortunately, I still had a job when I got back. If anything, I was more eager than ever to excel, to make up for lost time. I was able to earn a very high performance rating — my second in a row. But it seemed clear I would not be a candidate for promotion. After my leave, the manager I loved started treating me as fragile. He tried to analyze me, suggesting that I drank too much caffeine, didn’t sleep enough or needed more cardiovascular exercise. Speaking out irreparably damaged one of… Source link
