Texas hires Sarkisian, Michigan wants Harbaugh

Texas fired football coach Tom Herman on Saturday after he posted a 32-18 record (.640) the last four seasons. Buying out the contracts of Herman and all of his assistants will run the school (or its boosters) about $24 million and that’s before it pays new coach Steve Sarkisian or his staff. Meanwhile, Michigan presented football coach Jim Harbaugh a five-year contract extension this week (he’s yet to sign it, per an industry source) after leading the Wolverines to a 49-22 record (.690)… Source link

Ten head coaching hires, none of them Black. Why?

Is college football going to hire any African American coaches this year? Just wondering, because the trend certainly isn’t headed in that direction. Last season, the 120 FBS schools employed 13 Black head coaches. Three were fired and no African Americans have been hired yet this year (10 open positions have been filled by 10 white men). Illinois hires Bret Bielema as next football head coach

Bret Bielema is returning to the Big Ten … and the Midwest. Bielema was announced as the 26th football head coach in Illinois history Saturday. Bielema — an Illinois native — takes over a program previously run by Lovie Smith, who was fired Sunday after five seasons with the team.
