The golf boom is continuing this year as people look for fun, socially distanced outdoor activities during the pandemic. And that has caused executives at Dick’s Sporting Goods (DKS) to reach into their cash coffers to upgrade the shopping experience at their important Golf Galaxy stores so they keep pace with rivals such as the PGA Superstore.  Somewhat under the radar, Dick’s said on an earnings call Wednesday it would spend $20 million to bolster its Golf Galaxy stores in a bid to capture… Source link

The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island reclaims its role as host venue ahead of this week’s PGA Championship. It last played that role during the 2012 PGA where Rory McIlroy lapped the field. The course is known for being extremely exposed to the wind but the wind forecast is currently on the mild side. That could change at the drop of a hat so keep an eye on that. TPC Craig Ranch hops in this week to fill the void of hosting the AT&T Byron Nelson. They have a five-year contract for this event but as we saw with Trinity Forest, that could end sooner if it doesn’t go well. What do we know about Craig Ranch? It’s a par 72 that will play over 7,400 yards. The course has been soaked with rain in the lead-up to the event. The zoysia fairways don’t get much run to begin with so we should expect big hitters to have a nice advantage if they don’t move up some… Source link

Quail Hollow Club returns this week to host another Wells Fargo Championship. The course is one of the longest on TOUR. It’s loaded up to 7,521 yards as a par-71 layout. Distance is a clear advantage when you get a course that long. There are two stats I will focus on this week and both of them bake in power as part of the equation. The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort is a tough test and it’s return to host the 20th edition of the Valspar Championship. We have lots of history to lean on but a new date on the calendar also means the course set up will look a little different this week. Most importantly, the temperatures should have been warm enough in the lead-up to allow the bermuda to thrive. Don’t be fooled by the low scores last year, Harbour Town Golf Links presents a tough challenge for competitors.
