According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the participation rate has stayed between 61.4% and 61.7% since June 2020.  “We really have to focus on how do we bring confidence back to those folks that are just afraid of coming back,” said Walsh in… Source link

Apple and Google want to force remote workers back into cubicles. That friction could lead to a job exodus

The move to remote work at the onset of the pandemic last year happened virtually overnight, with shelter-in-place orders forcing office workers to abandon the spaces where they spent most of their waking hours as if driven off by a nuclear meltdown. So people spent the next weeks and months reorganizing their lives and homes, carving offices out of bedroom corners and slipping in and out of home schooling sessions for kids between calls, with former commute hours now devoted to myriad other… Source link

Alphabet union has a ‘long way to go’ before it can force Google to bargain, expert says

A newly formed labor movement at Google parent company Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) could reverberate throughout Silicon Valley. It could spur a new generation of technology workers to demand greater say in their pay, how the tools they create are commercialized, and how their employers address ethical questions about their products. The Alphabet Workers Union (AWU) could also fail to coalesce into an entity that legally obligates the tech giant to entertain its demands. According to Alex Colvin,… Source link

China accuses US of show of force with Taiwan Strait passage

National Review The Bill Is Coming Due for China’s ‘Capitalist’ Experiment The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has re-awoken to a profound truth: Rich, secure capitalists are the natural enemies of authoritarian regimes. In a hybrid autocratic-capitalist model, capitalism is the means to generate wealth, but power is the end goal. Successful capitalists naturally begin to demand that their personal and property rights be protected from authoritarian fiat. Capital in the hands of… Source link
