The Congressman Who Doesn’t Use Google

“When I see something that I consider an injustice, I just don’t buy the product,” says Buck, sitting behind his desk in the Rayburn House Office Building. He wore a dark, lightly checked suit, his gray hair cropped close; he dipped into his oatmeal breakfast from the House carryout, a “Make America Great Again” hat on the shelf behind him. For the past nearly two years, Buck has been staging, or trying to stage, a one-person Capitol Hill boycott of a set of companies most of… Source link

Chargers coach Brandon Staley doesn’t regret decisions

Six football seasons ago, Brandon Staley was the defensive coordinator at John Carroll University, a small, non-scholarship, Division III program in Ohio. That was 2016. This is 2021, and Staley is the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, locked Thursday night in a critical game against AFC West rival Kansas City. The 39-year-old is on a meteoric rise (he coached linebackers in Chicago for two seasons, then Denver for one, then became the defensive coordinator in L.A. for the Rams before… Source link

Bruce Arians doesn’t want Tom Brady running

Tom Brady may seem like an age-defying super human, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians knows his 44-year-old quarterback isn’t actually Captain America. He’s a mortal who needs to remember that his body doesn’t bounce back like it used to.  Which is why Arians was less than thrilled with this play from Brady during the Bucs’ 33-27 overtime win against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Brady’s never been much of a rushing quarterback, but he put his body on the line to get a first… Source link

Omicron stock market rout doesn’t mean stocks are a screaming buy: strategist

Don’t back up the truck just yet on stocks even in the wake of Friday’s brutal Omicron variant fueled sell-off, warns one long-time strategist. “I just don’t think we hit the level on the S&P 500 where I am willing to say this is a screaming buying opportunity right now,” said iCapital Network chief investment strategist Anastasia Amoroso on Yahoo Finance Live. “We don’t see that from the oversold technical levels and also we have another potentially negative catalyst here which is the… Source link

Biden’s plan ‘doesn’t hang together,’ GOP economist says

A key Democratic selling point of the new Build Back Better framework announced Thursday is that it’s fiscally responsible. “It’s fully paid for,” President Biden declared in a press briefing about the plan. “Over the next 10 years, it will not add to the deficit at all.” The White House summary of the bill goes even further and suggests the bill will actually reduce the deficit. On the spending side of the ledger, the president is pushing for $1.75 trillion in new spending offset… Source link

What is HIPAA? What the health privacy law does and doesn’t protect

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act — otherwise known as HIPAA — has become a major topic of discussion amid the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines as some individuals who have been asked about their vaccination status claim that the question is a violation of HIPAA.  For example, when asked about his vaccination status, Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott said: “I don’t necessarily think that’s exactly important. I think that’s HIPAA.” Congresswoman Marjorie… Source link

Yahoo Sports doesn’t like Tigers’ chances

Despite the amount of talent the 2021 Clemson football team will possess, Yahoo Sports doesn’t like the Tigers’ chances of advancing past the CFB Playoff semifinal round for a second-straight season. Yahoo Sports posted bowl projections for the 2021 season and had Clemson making it to the CFB Playoff, but nothing more. The publication had Clemson in the Orange Bowl taking on the Oklahoma Sooners. On the other side of the bracket, it was Alabama and Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. The end… Source link

Bitcoin prices have crashed but Coinbase stock doesn’t deserve to be slammed: analyst

It’s time to back up the truck and buy the beat-up shares of pioneering crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN), contends Oppenheimer analyst Owen Lau.  Coinbase shares don’t deserve to be swept up into the latest crypto winter, according to Lau.  “We think Coinbase should not trade in lockstep with bitcoin because bitcoin can be very volatile, but at the same time because of their volatility it drives higher trading volume. It is similar to all the traditional exchanges, and we think that it’s… Source link

FTC’s antitrust case against Facebook falters but doesn’t quite fall in federal court

An antitrust suit against Facebook by the FTC and several states had the wind taken out of its sails today by a federal judge, who ruled that the plaintiffs don’t provide enough evidence that the company exerts monopoly control over social media. The court was more receptive, however, to revisiting the acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp, and the case was left open for regulators to take another shot at it. The court decision was in response to a Facebook motion to dismiss the suit. Judge… Source link

Luka Doncic doesn’t like play-in postseason concept

The NBA expanded its playoff play-in concept for this season following the popular and successful intro inside the bubble at Walt Disney World last summer. At least one player in the league, however, isn’t happy about it. “I don’t understand the idea of a play-in,” Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic said Monday night, . “You play 72 games to get into the playoffs, then maybe you lose two in a row and you’re out of the playoffs. So I don’t see the point of that.” Dallas tracking… Source link
