A female Duke volleyball player was repeatedly called a racial slur during her match against BYU on Friday night, according to the player’s godmother. “My Goddaughter is the only black starter for Dukes volleyball team,” Lesa Pamplin tweeted on Saturday. “While playing yesterday, she was called a [racial slur] every time she served. UAB got its second bowl win in team history Saturday.  DeWayne McBride rushed for over 180 yards in the Blazers’ 31-28 upset over No. 13 BYU in the Independence Bowl. The win means UAB finishes the season at 9-4 and has won at least nine games in three of the past four seasons. It’s an incredible turnaround for a program that didn’t exist in 2015 and 2016 after it was shut down. After weeks of rumors, the Big 12 will add BYU, UCF, Houston and Cincinnati in a league vote on Friday. The news was first reported by Pete Thamel of Yahoo and then Brett McMurphy of Action Network. The three American schools are obligated to provide two years of notice to leave the conference and a $10 million exit fee. But a host of reports say the schools will play in the Big 12 in 2023.
