Buckeyes beat Utes in Rose Bowl Classic

Jaxon Smith-Njigba turned in the best receiving performance in bowl game history as No. 6 Ohio State stormed back to beat No. 11 Utah, 48-45, in the Rose Bowl. Smith-Njigba had 347 receiving yards and three touchdowns and what we all thought could be the game-winning score in an incredible throw-and-catch from C.J. Stroud with less than five minutes to go. But it wasn’t. The TD came after Utah QB Cam Rising had to leave the game after his head hit the turf while he was getting sacked. Rising… Source link

Notre Dame blows big lead, loses Fiesta Bowl

Everything was going wonderfully in Marcus Freeman’s debut as Notre Dame head coach. And then the wheels fell off. Facing Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl, Notre Dame was carving up the OSU defense with its passing game and jumped out to a 28-7 lead late in the first half. And with the Notre Dame defense stifling the OSU offense, it looked like the Irish would cruise to a victory to kick off the Freeman era in South Bend in style. Instead, Oklahoma State stormed back and scored 30… Source link

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit criticizes dedication of bowl opt outs

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t think players love football as much as they did decades ago. Herbstreit criticized players who opt out of bowl games during ESPN’s “College GameDay” show on Saturday morning. The network’s top analyst openly wondered why non-playoff bowl games were “meaningless” to players who opted to skip the games to prepare for their NFL careers and said he didn’t think that expanding the College Football Playoff to include more teams and more games would prevent… Source link

The Sun Bowl is back on. After its originally scheduled opponent Miami dropped out because of a reported COVID-19 outbreak on the team, Washington State will now face Central Michigan in the Dec. 31 bowl. A day after Miami canceled, CMU lost its bowl opponent on Monday when Boise State had to withdraw from the Arizona Bowl because of its own COVID-19 outbreak. With two teams in need of a bowl partner, it didn’t take long for the natural conclusion to play out. The Arizona Bowl, with a… Source link

Rams’ Matthew Stafford not playing at Super Bowl level

To this point, the NFL has shown it isn’t like the NBA, where a super team can join forces and produce championships. Much of that, of course, is simple numbers: There are only five players per team at a time on a basketball court and they play offense and defense. This year’s Los Angeles Rams are trying to show it can be done in the NFL, adding Matthew Stafford, Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr. to a roster that already included Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey and MVP candidate Cooper Kupp. The Source link

Boise State out of Arizona Bowl due to COVID-19

Boise State became the latest team to back out of a bowl game due to COVID-19 cases as the Broncos are unable to play in Friday’s Arizona Bowl against Central Michigan.  Boise State’s inability to play set up an opportunity for Central Michigan to play Washington State in the Sun Bowl.  The Cougars were in need of an opponent to play in El Paso, Texas, on Friday after Miami backed out of the Sun Bowl because of its own COVID cases.  There are many financial reasons for Central Michigan to… Source link
