Investors warn Omicron, Fed are a risk in a ‘growing but slowing’ economy

Major indexes are poised to end the year boosted by the “Santa Claus Rally” effect, as the market shrugs off concerns associated with surging COVID-19 case numbers across the U.S. and the world. But according to NJ-based financial services firm Hennon & Walsh, the Omicron variant remains among the top uncertainties in the market heading into the new year, regardless of whether investors are currently interpreting it as such.  “The two biggest uncertainties for investors right now clearly… Source link

Stock market news live updates: December 27, 2021

Stock futures crept up on Monday as investors head into a quiet final week of the year, with lower trading volumes and light economic data and corporate earnings releases. Contracts on all three major indexes were in the green ahead of the trading session but ticked up only slightly after last week’s rally heading into the Christmas weekend. The S&P 500 closed at a record on Thursday, along with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq, buoyed by positive data that suggested the Omicron… Source link

Dallas Cowboys defense creates NFL’s scariest playoff team

Back in September, shortly after DeMarcus Lawrence was limping off a practice field with a broken foot, he tapped out a hopeful-but-entirely-predictable social media post to raise the spirits of the Dallas Cowboys faithful. It was the kind of thing that is widely shared but scarcely believed when it comes to this franchise, a team that has seen for decades its best-laid plans break down. “Will be back and ready for war,” Lawrence tweeted. “Believe it.” What Lawrence and the Cowboys… Source link

Cowboys light up Sunday Night Football

5 Things I care about Cowboys prove they’re as dangerous as anyone The Cowboys came into Week 16 with a defense that ranked No. 1 in EPA per play allowed and an offense that kept having the word “slump” attached to it. They’ll leave Week 16 with only one of those. If you told an uninformed viewer that one of the quarterbacks playing tonight had a 5:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio over the last month, they’d have never guessed it was Dak Prescott. From the opening whistle to the… Source link

WFT teammates fight each other on sideline after bad start

The Washington Football Team couldn’t stop the Dallas Cowboys in the first half. They couldn’t move the ball either.  WFT was being blown out, and that was embarrassing enough. Then two teammates started fighting on the sideline.  Defensive linemen Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen were sitting on the bench after another Cowboys touchdown. Payne was arguing with Allen, Allen was trying to not react when Payne poked him in the head. That led to Allen getting up swinging.  Fight between teammates… Source link

COVID prompts Miami to withdraw from Sun Bowl vs. WSU

The University of Miami withdrew on Sunday from its scheduled Sun Bowl appearance against Washington State, citing a COVID-19 outbreak on the roster.  The withdrawal prompted Washington State head coach Jake Dickert to offer to play “any opponent” in the game scheduled for Dec. 31 in El Paso, Texas. Dickert, whose Cougars are already in El Paso, made the plea on Twitter.  It wasn’t immediately clear who, if anyone, would be able to replace Miami as of Sunday evening. Washington State… Source link

With new interview rules, Bears should let Matt Nagy go now

If the Chicago Bears have made up their minds on the fate of head coach Matt Nagy, there’s little reason for them to delay what feels like the inevitable. Let the man go. No, this isn’t a snow-blinded suggestion after Sunday’s late, spirited comeback win over the Seattle Seahawks. And it’s not a reactionary take for a coach who won 15 of his first 20 regular-season games but has gone 18-25 since. Nagy had to feel like he was coaching for his life when the decision to go for two after the Bears… Source link

Josh Allen, Bills answer bell vs. Patriots

If you’ve followed the AFC East over the past two decades or so, the New England Patriots‘ Monday night win over the Buffalo Bills earlier this month seemed incredibly familiar: The Patriots went on the road against a division rival and did exactly what it took to win, seemingly slashing a few holes in the opponents’ sails in the process. As they racked up an incredible 17 division titles in 19 seasons, New England was dominant against Buffalo in particular. But after the Bills rolled into… Source link

Unlucky Ravens’ season falls apart

The Baltimore Ravens sum up the 2021 NFL season. It all looked so good not long ago. Then injuries and COVID-19 ruined everything.  The Ravens went on the road in what should have been an AFC North championship showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. They had no chance.  The Ravens had 10 players on the COVID-19 list. They had seven starters on injured reserve and had 11 practice squad players on the field via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. Cornerback Anthony Averett was carted off during the… Source link
