Houston knocks off Illinois to make Sweet 16

Illinois has bowed out of the NCAA tournament in the second round for the second straight season. Last year as a No. 1 seed, the Illini were shocked in the Round of 32 by Loyola Chicago. This time around as a No. 4 seed in the South region, Illinois was no match for the physicality and athleticism of No. 5 Houston. Houston out-hustled Illinois, the Big Ten champions, throughout the first half to build a double-digit lead, withstood an Illinois run that tied the game early in the second half… Source link

Illinois’ RJ Melendez gets controversial T

Illinois guard RJ Melendez got a technical foul after a fast-break dunk during the second half of the Illini’s second-round men’s NCAA tournament loss to Houston. Melendez was sprinting down court before he dunked the ball and it was obvious to anyone watching that he had to hold onto the rim to prevent himself from flying off and potentially landing dangerously. But the officials calling the game somehow ruled that Melendez intentionally hung on the rim for longer than he needed to and he… Source link

The reworked contract? Far richer and more alarming in structure than anyone expected. The trade package netted by the Houston Texans for Watson? Definitely smaller than anticipated. But the legacy of it all? There was little doubt in anyone’s mind: This was a moment of… Source link

March Madness betting: Picks for Sunday’s games

Of course, we had to have at least one meeting of hall-of-fame coaches in Mike Krzyzewski’s last March Madness. Duke faces Michigan State in a game between two of the best programs in the sport. Tom Izzo’s Michigan State team wasn’t great this regular season, especially near the end, but is looking a lot better since tournament play started.
