Twitter denies blue check for Vikings legend Alan Page

Twitter found a novel way to make Minnesota angry on Thursday. It said Alan Page isn’t notable enough for its fabled blue check mark. That would be Alan Page, the Minnesota Vikings legend. Alan Page, the Pro and College Football Hall of Famer. Alan Page, the Minnesota Supreme Court justice. Alan Page, the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Alan Page, the namesake of the NFLPA’s community service award. All of that sounds like a fairly notable person — it goes without saying that… Source link

Stock futures tick up ahead of Powell’s Jackson Hole remarks

Stock futures edged higher Thursday evening after closing lower during the regular trading day, as jitters over the prospects of less accommodative monetary policy compounded with fresh geopolitical concerns. Contracts on the S&P 500 ticked up. Earlier on Thursday, the index closed lower to end a five-session winning streak and pull back from an all-time high. Both the Dow and Nasdaq had also ended in the red. More hawkish commentary from Fed policymakers ahead of the central bank’s key… Source link

Dallas Fed’s Kaplan calls for tapering announcement in September

Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Robert Kaplan said rising concerns over the spread of the Delta variant have not materially changed his call to start the process of pulling back on the central bank’s extraordinary monetary stimulus in September. “I’m going to be suggesting that we should move toward announcing a plan as early as our September meeting and begin our tapering process in October,” Kaplan told Yahoo Finance in an interview on Thursday. Kaplan’s comments come as the… Source link

Why Hawaii ‘hitting the pause button’ on travel is turning heads

Hawaii was the summer poster child of what a U.S. travel rebound could look like, but now it’s quickly turning into what could be a nightmare fall. As Hawaii’s Lieutenant Governor Josh Green explained to Yahoo Finance Thursday, a 14-fold spike in COVID-19 infections since July and a surge in hospitalizations has led the Aloha state to “hit the pause button on travel to Hawaii until October.” “As a physician, I’m seeing the impact on our hospitals. Our hospitals are now full in the state of… Source link

Here’s the cost of going unvaccinated

Delta Air Lines broke new ground recently by requiring unvaccinated employees to pay an extra $200 per month for company-provided health insurance. That may be a bargain for workers refusing to get vaccinated against Covid-19. The average cost of hospitalization for Covid-19 is around $20,000, according to recently published data from the Kaiser Family Foundation. At $200 per month, it would take 100 months of added premiums, or more than 8 years’ worth, to cover the cost of a Covid… Source link

Google Sheets’ formula suggestions are like autofill for math

Google has announced that Google Sheets is getting the ability to intelligently suggest formulas and functions for your spreadsheet, based on the data you’re trying to analyze. For example, typing “=” into a cell below a list of numbers will pop up a box that lets you automatically add the numbers together, find their average, and more. From my admittedly simple tests, it seems to be a pretty smart system. For example, with one column of data, it suggested that I could be looking for… Source link

‘I wish everyone was mandated to have the vaccine,’ says Alabama doctor

Vaccine mandates are on the rise after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted full approval of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine and Moderna submitted for full federal approval of its vaccine, bringing to light an issue dividing the country as supporters say a mandate is for the common good while opponents call for medical freedom. And as the number of COVID-19 cases climb nationwide, with the seven-day average topping 150,000 this week for the first time since January, health… Source link
