Biden order to ban investment in 59 Chinese defense and tech firms

By Michael Martina WASHINGTON, June 3 (Reuters) – The Biden administration will issue a new executive order on Thursday that bans U.S. entities from buying or selling publicly traded securities for 59 Chinese companies with alleged ties to defense or surveillance technology sectors, senior administration officials said. The Treasury Department will enforce and update on a “rolling basis” the new ban list, which replaces one from the Department of Defense, the officials, noting the policy would… Source link

Why Bed Bath & Beyond CEO isn’t getting sucked into meme stock mania (unlike AMC CEO)

This journalist remembers chatting on a number of occasions with Mark Tritton when he was the whiz kid behind Target’s merchandising revival from 2016 to 2019.  Tritton — serving as Target’s chief merchandising officer — was level-headed, decisive, creatively-focused and believed he could bring the cheap chic cool factor back to the discount retailer. He achieved his mission (Tritton remains a big reason why it’s fun to shop at Target), and Target’s bottom line continues to benefit from… Source link

AMC stock is worth less than a movie ticket: analyst

Wall Street pros continue to come out in force to remind retail traders of going all in right now on meme stock favorite AMC Entertainment (AMC).  Macquarie analyst Chad Beynon and his team reiterated their $6 price target (the cost of one ticket at an AMC theater is about $14) and Neutral rating on AMC in early afternoon trading Thursday. While the group commended AMC CEO Adam Aron for his embrace of the enthusiastic retail trading community and voiced optimism on a box office recovery… Source link

Google will nudge users to adopt gender-neutral language

Jun 5th 2021 IN THE 1990S parodies of Clippy from Microsoft Word were a bit of a trend in cartoons and magazines. The annoying paper-clip-shaped figure would pop up as soon as you began writing “Dear…” and say: “It looks like you’re writing a letter,” before offering unsolicited advice on things such as formatting. Two decades later, various automatic aids to writing, including spelling and grammar-checkers, are much better. They are both more discerning—powered by artificial… Source link

Google Pixel Buds A-Series review: price is everything

With the new, awkwardly named Pixel Buds A-Series, Google is trying to do more than merely introduce a much cheaper set of true wireless earbuds: the company wants to get it right this time — and get it right for under $100. Google’s second-generation Pixel Buds were certainly an improvement over the company’s original wireless earbuds; let us never forget the most overly intricate carrying case of all time. But the 2020 earbuds came with issues of their own. At the top of that list… Source link

Why Logan Paul vs. Floyd Mayweather is a good thing

Say what you will about him, Logan Paul is not a stupid young man. He’s already a multi-millionaire because of his social media savvy, and on Sunday, he’s going to add millions more to his bank account by doing something he’s not very good at. You have to be brilliant to pull that off, and Paul has done it. He’s going to receive a paycheck larger than many boxing legends ever received when he fights Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in the main… Source link

Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) Review: Sweet Dreams

Over the past year, I’ve heavily relied on Google’s Nest Hub Max in the kitchen. This 10-inch smart display has helped me remember important ingredients while I cooked, and it’s entertained me with music as I waited for the water to boil. I’ve enjoyed my time with it so much that when Google unveiled a new version of its 7-inch Nest Hub, I was excited to see if bringing it into my bedroom could upgrade my sleep too. Sleep Sensing is the hot new feature in Google’s smaller smart display. As… Source link
