LSU defensive lineman Maason Smith is out for the rest of the 2022 season after he suffered a torn ACL early in Sunday’s loss to Florida State, according to Julie Boudwin of Rivals. He’s expected to have surgery in the coming weeks. Smith had to leave the first quarter of the game after injuring his left knee while celebrating a tackle. Brian Kelly’s first game at LSU was a special teams disaster. The Tigers lost 24-23 to Florida State on Sunday night after they had two kicks blocked and dropped two points. The final blocked kick came on a game-tying extra point with no time left after Jaray Jenkins caught a two-yard TD pass from Jayden Daniels. Will Wade is officially out as LSU head coach, almost three years to the day after it emerged that he had been caught on an FBI wiretap discussing illegal payments to a recruit. LSU announced in a statement Saturday that Wade had been terminated for cause, the cause being the NCAA’s recent notice of allegations regarding an infractions case dating back to 2017, the year Wade was hired as LSU head coach. Current Kansas coach Les Miles was banned from being alone with female students while he was the coach at LSU following allegations of inappropriate behavior. LSU released a 2013 internal investigation into the coach’s behavior after USA Today sued to make it public. Its release comes after the investigation’s existence became known in late February. LSU’s Jay Ward got the craziest interception of the season against Florida on Saturday night. Ward somehow came up with an interception while kneeling along the sideline after Kyle Trask’s pass bounced off a hand and a helmet before ricocheting back towards Ward while he was laying down on the field at the time of the deflections.
