What we’re watching on the ground at the World Economic Forum

Bring on the private jets, billionaires, pricey snow-boots, splashy nighttime parties, and climate change talks over coffee at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. The annual event returns to its mid-January time-slot for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The theme this year: Cooperation in a Fragmented World. The five-day confab, which begins on Monday, will attract the world’s elite from politicians to pop-stars. Some big names on the snowy grounds will… Source link

Why October’s stock market rally is ‘on shaky ground’

Why October’s stock market rally is ‘on shaky ground’

The stock market may have come on too hard, too fast in October given the negative news facing investors into year end. “We believe the October rally in risk assets is really on shaky ground because markets previously were looking for a dovish pivot from the Fed and then they were looking for a pause from the Fed,” BlackRock Chief Investment Strategist Wei Li said on Yahoo Finance Live (video above). “So it feels like markets want to see some positive development in terms of a dovish message… Source link

After tough loss, Davante Adams shoves cameraman to the ground on way to locker room

Davante Adams was frustrated after the Las Vegas Raiders‘ 30-29 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He’ll regret how he took out that frustration. On his way back to the locker room after the game, Adams shoved a cameraman to the ground. ESPN’s cameras caught the act and played it on “SportsCenter” after the game. It’s not a good look for Adams and the NFL will not take kindly to it either. Adams was clearly upset as the game ended. He and teammate Hunter Renfrow collided downfield on a… Source link

Putin’s ‘annexation’ announcement changes little on the ground in Ukraine

KYIV, Ukraine — Even by his own fire-and-brimstone standards, Russian President Vladimir Putin seemed angry on Friday as he addressed hundreds of Russian parliamentarians and governors in St. George Hall in the Kremlin. The event had been called so that Putin could triumphantly announce his latest gambit in Ukraine, the annexation of four regions of that country into the Russian Federation. But as he rattled off a litany of reasons as to why this land grab was necessary, the mood was more… Source link

Russians Have Lost Ground in Severodonetsk: Regional Governor

Russian forces have lost ground in Severodonetsk, a key city in eastern Ukraine that has been the scene of ferocious fighting as Moscow seeks to gain control of Donbas, a regional governor said Sunday. “The Russians were in control of about 70 percent of the city, but have been forced back over the past two days,” Lugansk regional governor Sergiy Gaiday wrote on Telegram.  “The city is divided in two. They are afraid to move freely around the city.” The region of Lugansk has been… Source link

Italian cable car plunges to the ground, killing at least 13

ROME (AP) — A cable car taking visitors to a mountaintop view of some of northern Italy’s most picturesque lakes plummeted to the ground Sunday and then tumbled down the slope, killing 13 people and sending two children to the hospital in serious condition, authorities said.
