Fitbit gets new Help Center hosted by Google

Fitbit gets new Help Center hosted by Google

On Wednesday, Google announced big leadership changes that will inevitably see Fitbit move closer to the parent company. One way that’s already manifesting is with a new Fitbit Help Center that’s hosted on Google’s existing support infrastructure. Fitbit Help articles are now found and hosted on support.google.com/fitbit after previously being located at help.fitbit.com. The content remains the same, while the native dark theme is a particular upside.

Google is messing with Driving Mode again, and I’ve had enough of this nonsense

Google is messing with Driving Mode again, and I’ve had enough of this nonsense

Google doesn’t like me. That’s the only assumption I can make when it consistently finds ways to make my life more difficult. Google+, Inbox, Pixelbook, these are dead Google products that I love, but at least I could find alternatives for them easily enough. The same can’t be said for driving apps. Google has messed with its driving apps for the worse twice now, and it looks like it’s about to happen again. What came before Google’s first solution to create a driving… Source link

Google will now let EU users opt out of sharing data across YouTube, Search, and its other services

Google just announced a change for users in Europe that will let them decide exactly how much data-sharing they’re comfortable with. The new policy, which the company said was in response to the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), allows users to opt out of data sharing across all, some, or none of a select number of Google’s services. The services listed include YouTube, Search, ad services, Google Play, Chrome, Google Shopping, and Google Maps. But the policy isn’t watertight… Source link

Google Pixel phones may get a rare kernel upgrade soon

Google Pixel phones may get a rare kernel upgrade soon

One of the biggest selling points of a Pixel device is the (usual) cadence at which Google releases new software updates and, apparently, Tensor-powered Pixels are about to get a rare software update that updates the kernel used behind the scenes. As highlighted by Mishaal Rahman on Twitter/X, Google appears to be working on updating the Linux kernel on all Tensor-powered Pixels. Specifically, the evidence presented suggests an update to version 6.1, which was… Source link

Google may let you choose which of its services are linked, thanks to EU

Google may let you choose which of its services are linked, thanks to EU

Damien Wilde / Android Authority TL;DR Google will allow users to unlink the Google services they use to comply with the EU’s Digital Market Act. Users will be able to make that choice when the DMA takes effect on March 6, 2024. Google warns that some features that share data across Google services could become limited or unavailable after unlinking. This year, the rules of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) will start applying to companies that have been deemed gatekeepers — like… Source link

Google Ads support is at an ‘all-time low’ – we asked Google why

Google Ads support is at an ‘all-time low’ – we asked Google why

Google Ads customer service has plummeted to an unacceptable all-time low, according to search marketers. From incorrect account suspensions to uncomfortable sales calls “aggressively” pushing automation to confusion over the platform’s own products, advertisers have told Search Engine Land that they are exasperated by the lack of help offered by their reps. And the problem only seems to be getting worse. A ‘brutal’ process Mike Kelley, Chief Marketing Officer at… Source link

Google Assistant is killing 17 commands in the coming weeks — what you need to know

Google Assistant is killing 17 commands in the coming weeks — what you need to know

Google Assistant can do an insane amount of stuff, and the list of features grows larger with each passing year — especially thanks to better generative AI support. So, just like me, it sounds like Google Assistant’s New Year’s Resolution is to shed some of the extra weight — and will be losing 17 “underutilized” features in the coming weeks.  According to Google’s announcement, it wants to focus on “experiences you love and investing in the underlying technology to make… Source link

Google Explains The Index, Follow Meta Tag

Google Explains The Index, Follow Meta Tag

Google’s John Mueller answered a question on Reddit about a commonly used robots meta tag and what would happen if it was missing. Mueller’s answer, while it makes sense and is documented, may still come as a surprise to many publishers and SEOs. Robots Meta Tag The HTML meta element communicates metadata. Metadata is machine readable information that a crawler like Googlebot can read. There are many kinds of meta elements like the meta description element but the Robots Meta Element is… Source link

Google and Bing put nonconsensual deepfake porn at the top of some search results – NBC Los Angeles

Google and Bing put nonconsensual deepfake porn at the top of some search results – NBC Los Angeles

Nonconsensual deepfake pornography is just a click away on popular search engines like Google and Microsoft’s Bing. Deepfake pornography often grafts a person’s face into a real pornographic scene — for example, a famous woman’s face will be “swapped” with an adult star’s face, making it appear that the famous woman is nude or engaged in a sexual act. NBC News found that deepfake pornographic images featuring the likenesses of female celebrities were the… Source link
