Marcus Freeman is going to have to wait a little longer to get his first win as Notre Dame’s head coach. Marshall played spoiler on Saturday in No. 8 Notre Dame’s home opener, upsetting the Fighting Irish 26-21 in South Bend. No. 2 Ohio State scored its fewest points since 2018 in a 21-10 win over No. 5 Notre Dame on Saturday night. The high-flying Buckeyes offense was slowed by a great Notre Dame gameplan and an injury to star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. No. 5 seed Notre Dame left nothing in doubt advancing to the Sweet 16 on Monday night. Notre Dame is looking to stay in-house for Brian Kelly’s replacement. According to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, Notre Dame defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman is expected to become the team’s next head coach after going through the Irish’s formal hiring process.  Freeman came to Notre Dame from Cincinnati after the 2020 season and replaces Kelly after a year in South Bend.
