Pro basketball players try to flee war with Russia

Last month, when the U.S. State Department began urging American citizens to leave Ukraine, Jerome Randle’s phone started buzzing incessantly. Friends and family in America would send Randle media reports detailing Russia’s extraordinary military buildup along its border with Ukraine. They then begged the Chicago native to pack up his belongings and return home before it was too late. “At least 50 people must have hit me up,” Randle, 34, told Yahoo Sports. “They were all saying,… Source link

Pending home sales fall for a third consecutive month

Homebuying in the U.S. was slower than anticipated in the first month of 2022. Pending home sales, a leading indicator of the health of the housing market, declined for the third straight month. Contract signings were down across all regions in the U.S. The results came… Source link

How to update Google Chrome

Okay, let’s start with the obvious: it’s important to keep a browser — any browser — up to date so that it can stay ahead of any malware or other nasties that are out there. It also helps you keep up with new features and interface improvements. If you’re a Chrome user, it’s likely that your browser will automatically update itself to the latest available version when it’s restarted. However, if you (like me) have a tendency to keep your browser open for long periods of… Source link

Players won’t settle for an unfair deal this time

JUPITER, Fla. — This is what changing the system looks like. Baseball’s economic structure hasn’t been fair to players for a while now. Oh, it’s been great — once you’re out of the minors, anyway — but not fair. Especially for the younger players who increasingly shoulder the bulk of both the on-field production and the public marketability of the sport. Their compensation is prescribed by a collective bargaining agreement that is only rewritten a couple times every decade and… Source link

Yandex Stock: Bear vs. Bull

Yandex ( YNDX -6.79% ), one of Russia’s largest tech companies, lost 40% of its market value over the past 12 months as it grappled with an antitrust probe, concerns about its net losses, rising interest rates, and the Ukrainian conflict sparking an exodus from Russian equities. But after that steep sell-off, Yandex trades at just 2.2 times this year’s sales. That seems like a very low valuation for one of Russia’s largest online search, ride-hailing, e-commerce, and… Source link

Australia’s Standoff Against Google and Facebook Worked—Sort Of

Over Zoom, Australia’s communications minister, Paul Fletcher, has the air of a man in the middle of a victory speech. He credits his team and the country’s competition regulator for succeeding where others had failed: forcing tech giants to pay for news. “There were a lot of people saying you can’t really succeed in taking on the global digital giants,” he says, sitting beneath strip lighting in his Sydney constituency office. But Fletcher and Australia’s federal treasurer, Josh… Source link
